Becoming a Good Person by Being in Jesus’ Easy Yoke

Listen to Bill present this message:

In Jesus’ easy yoke we obey God routinely, naturally. We become the kind of person who genuinely and consistently loves God, neighbors, and even enemies.

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus explains what a truly good (and happy!) person is like and how to become one. But most of us who seek to follow Jesus don’t understand his teaching in the Sermon on the Mount and in the inward transformation of the heart he brings. We try hard to be good but end up feeling guilty or inadequate about the ways we fall short. Or we hide behind an ideal self. Or we drift into quiet resignation, feeling as if we can never really be like Jesus.

God’s wisdom is: “Don’t try. Train.” In other words, step into Jesus’ easy yoke. Along these lines we shared in a meditation on Matthew 11:25-30 (MSG).

This talk was given at the Coronodao Men’s Connection in San Diego, CA on July 15, 2012. Forty of us were in Jesus’ easy yoke, sitting outside around the pool as the sun was setting as we discussed and prayed together about being with Jesus to become like him.
